  Lawrence Thein, of Appleton, age 90 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 22, 2007, with his family at his side. He was born August 6, 1916, in Kimberly, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (DeLeeuw) Thein. Larry graduated from Kimberly High School. He married Rosemary Oestereich on May 29, 1942, in Newark, New Jersey. Larry served in the U.S. Air Force and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served as a pilot. Following his active Air Force career he served as a purchasing agent at Miller Electric Manufacturing Company. Larry was a former member of the Breakfast Optimist Club of Appleton, United Commercial Travelers (UCT), William Verhagen American Legion Post #60 of Kimberly, Johnston-Blessman Amercian Legion Post #38 of Appleton and the Reserve Officers Association. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosemary Thein; children: Mary Jo (Joel) Grossman, Appleton and Robert "Dusty" (Martha) Thein, Cheyenne, Wyoming; grandchildren: Kelly and Matthew Kramer, Appleton; Joshua and James Thein, Cheyenne, Wyoming; great-grandson, Keegan Kildee; sisters: Eleanor Schreiber, Appleton; Betty Biese, Kaukauna; Thelma (Joseph) Pohlman, Kimberly and Marie VanRossum, Appleton; and sister-in-law: Jane (Don) Skall, Appleton. Larry is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: June (Donald) VanderVelden and Margaret (Arthur) Handler; brothers: Jack Thein, Bill Thein and his infant brother Russell Thein; brothers-in-law: Lloyd Schreiber, Eugene Biese and Paul Van Rossum. The memorial service for Larry will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2007, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer Association of Greater Northeastern Wisconsin are appreciated. The family would like to extend a thank you to Affinity Hospice for their care and compassion. Also, a special thanks to our neighbors, Barb Paiser and family who were always there for us.
