      # Note:

William Early was the oldest child in the family and graduated from
either Loyola University Medical School in Chicago or the University of
      Chicago Medical School.

He started using heroine his last year in Medical School and became
addicted. The addiction made him very serious and he frowned alot. Betty Jane Early said that her mother Jessica Early was the only one who ever told her this and that her mother didn't mind telling adverse things about the Early Family.

After graduating from medical school, he interned at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and was still in Chicago as late as 1913. After leaving Chicago, he praticed medicine in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
His wife, Mary Broderick, who was strikingly beautiful and looked like
his mother, Mary Brogan, died in 1924 after giving birth to their fifth child. Will Early did not make life happy for his wife. He knew in his heart that drugs and the frowning expression that it brought on caused his wife to die young. This instantly affected him so much that he quit medicine in order to cure himself of his addiction, never took a drug again and went to work at his brother Jim's tire and battery repair shop that had been established for the cars that were just coming out. Later he worked in the Early Saloon started by his father. If someone called him "Doc", he'd say, I'm Will." He grieved much for his wife and came extremely close to God (although he had always been very religious). He never again went into his medical office after his wife's death and never remarried. He then just took care of the children alone. He never sent the children to an orphanage.

His wife's younger sister, Gertrude, who was also strikingly beautiful
and engaged to be married at the time of her sister's death, called off
her engagement a year or two after her sister's death to help raise her
sister's children with her mother and Will. All of his children lived
very saintly lives according to Elizabeth Jane Early.

Ganger thought Mary Broderick wanted to die because her husband had
gotten into heroin and she felt unloved.

Mary Broderick's brother was also a doctor.

CONVERSATION WITH ELIZABETH JANE EARLY ANDREWS 2/15/04:
Gertrude Broderick broke off her engagement and she and her mother raised her sister and Will Early's children after she died. Betty remembers her well. Gertrude worked for a company as a bookkeeper. Her office was on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the first floor. Betty remembers how exciting it was to be there at her office. Gertrude kept her job while she helped raise her sister and Will's children.
