He was able to dire ct me to the Garvey Farm near Killaloe. I'v visited Ireland three times b ut really did not get into family research. I did meet Freda Gleason (s he was a Rohan) she is related to my Aunt, Helen (Leo) Coffey she was Hel en Rohan. She runs a B&B in Birdhill near Killaloe. She knows she has rela tives in Kaukauna, in fact she has named her B&B the "Kakauna Lodge". S he has never been to Kaukauna and when I asked her why she picked the na me for her Lodge she said she heard that Kaukauna is very similar to Killa loe with a river running through it, golf fishing and mountains. I didn 't say anything that might have spoiled her vision of Kaukauna. She was ra ised by a neighbor woman after her mother died and that lady was good frie nds with the Garvey's. She recently sent me the following email... Dear Fran, I expect you will be surprised to hear from me? Hope you are bo th ok as we are here in Birdhill. Last Sat while reading the death notic es on the the Independent I saw this notice which I think will be of re al interest to you. I did make attempts to get the contact for you in Aust ralia of the the Garvey family but the lady I needed died a few months ag o. Anyway here is what I saw, Garvey(Malbourne, Australia formerly of The Glen Kill aloe Co. Clare) Feb 6th 2003 at the Presentation Convent, Dandenong Roa d, Melbourne, Sr Germaine, in her 91st year;regretted by her sister-in-law ,nephews nieces relatives and friends.R.I.P.Funeral took place in Melbour ne on Wed. Feb 12th 2003. Fran I think if you write to the convent they will give yo ur letter to one of the nieces or nephews and you may get the informati on you want. Maybe you should send email address also. Now I have dista nt cousins in Melbourne (Rohans a trifle odd dont tell Bill!!) but I wi ll contact then to help if you get stuck.I also have a penpal in Aus who se parents and sister live in Victoria so I am sure they would help too. L ife is much the same here working away at the B@B and the sheep and the bo ys still survey. Brian the youngest boy is in collage studing history a nd media and doing ok. He hopes in Spring 2004 to do a semeter in teh U S. David has moved from Savannah Ga and now teaches at the Collage of Char leston SC. He is here for 10 days as he has Spring break. W go to visit h im on May 1st for 2wks so that is something to look forward to. David pub lished a book last year titled The Irish in the South from1815-1877. Th at is what he did for his PhD and it is doing well and he got an award f or it. He will attend Minneapolis for the American Conference of Irish Cou lture on the 1st wk in June to receive his prize. When you have time l et us know how you all are.
