  Helen M. Demerath, 84, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Manor Care in Appleton. She was born on Aug. 24, 1922, in Menasha, daughter of the late Joseph and Cecilia (Suchodolski) Pakalski. Helen was in one of the first graduating classes at St. Mary High School. She graduated in 1939. Helen worked at American Can prior to her marriage. She was united in marriage to Don W. Demerath on May 15, 1954, at St. John Catholic Church, Menasha; he preceded her in death on April 23, 2000. Helen loved to go traveling with her husband before his death. Helen was a volunteer for the Red Cross and enjoyed knitting, sewing, and crossword puzzles. She made Palm Crosses for the Ministries of Care of St. Mary Church, which were given to children and the elderly. Most of all Helen loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters, Julie Demerath, Libertyville, Ill.; and Betty (Tom) Kuepper, Menasha; 10 grandchildren, Lucie Brei, Delora Brei-Short, both Wisconsin Rapids; Nikkolaus, Kateri, Geoffrey, and Josef Brei, all Shawano; Ben (Maria) Gillis, Hortonville; Jon and David Gillis, Menasha; and Sam Kuepper, Menasha; and a great-granddaughter, Georgia Short. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Erwin Pakalski and Joseph Pakalski Jr. and a sister, Joanne Beyer. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Radetski officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Menasha. In lieu of flowers, memorial masses are preferred. The family would like to thank Prairie Home Elder Services and Manor Care for the care they provided over the past five years.
