No, I didn't find any of the Nelsons in the church records. But then, I didn't go thru all of the membership records. Ran out of time.
Do you know what was done with Altha's cremains?
What about William C. - when / where did he die?
Where did you find Ella Pingel's obit?

      WEDDING RECEPTION FOR LOCAL PEOPLE
MR. AND MRS. EDWARD NELSON ENTERTAINED AT FOND DU LAC ON THURSDAY.
The Fond du Lac Commonwealth yesterday said:
A reception will be tendered this evening by Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Bloedel, East Rees street, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Nelson, of Appleton, whose wedding took place in that city Wednesday evening. The ceremony took place at the reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Appleton, being performed by Rev. E. L. Mason. The bride, Miss Irene Neff, was attended by Miss Anna Weilan, of Appleton, while the gorrm was attended by Michael Gayhart, also of that city. The bride was attired in champagne satin and carried a shower bouquet of briday roses, while the bridesmaid was attired in pink silk and carried pink roses.
The bride and groom came to Fond du Lac Wednesday evening and are new guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Bloedel, the latter being an aunt of the bride.

      Appleton Post-Crescent Saturday January 7, 1928 p.9
The wedding of Miss Mae Nelson, who has just returned from California, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Nelson, Sunny Slope, and Leonard Walson, Cleveland, Ohio, was solemnized at 8 o'clock Friday evening, at the parsonage of First Methodist church. Dr. J. A. Holmes performed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were attended by Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Pingel. After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents for the immediate relatives. The couple left on a wedding trip to Minneapolis and other northern places. They will be at home after Feb. 1, at 121 N. Appleton st.

I was told that Altha's remains were scattered over Lake Winnebago.

      I found Ella Pingel's obit in the Appleton Post-Crescent , Tuesday, November 17, 1959/Page 30.

William C. - I have not been able to find when he died. I did find him on the 1920 Fed census living in Kenai, Alaska Territory. His wife at that time was Lucinda (didn't know maiden name) and they had one son William not quite one years old at that time. In all he & Lucinda had three boys, William, James, and Richard (Dick). Notes I have from a cousin that William C. had gone to Alaska for the gold rush. He was also a fisherman there. His wife Lucina committed suicide in Alaska and William brought the boys back to the Fox Valley area and drove bus for awhile. He later married a woman by the name of Jean (maybe) Knight. They had one child a girl, named Jeanie. The family moved to Port Townsend, Washington. I have a picture of him and his home with the writing on the front saying Port Townsend, 1943. He did fishing there and eventually had a bar.

Thank you for the article on Edward Nelson's marriage to Irene Neff. I did not have that one. I do have a 1920 Fed Census showing the family living in Seattle, Washington. There were two children listed on this census, Elaine J and Evelyn D. They later divorced. Edward lived most of his life in San Francisco. Next he married an older woman by the name of Ruth. Know very little about this woman. After she died he married an Anna M Clark on June 13, 1965 in San Francisco. I did find that marriage in the California marriage index 1960-1985. Haven't found his death notice yet. He was a lay minister in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and worked for an automobile business in sales.

Also, thank you for the articles on Mae Wilson marriage and Mildred Stroebe obit. You have been a big help to me and I certainly appreciate all the articles you sent me.

But no death date for Altha?
for some reason, I had Ella's death as being in 1956. No wonder I couldn't find her obit!

I found a Mary Seller age 25 listed with Alex Seller in the 1870 census for Little Suamico, Oconto co., Wis, (p.1 #2-2) with children Lewis 10, Gud?ous 9, John 8, & Mary 7. This could be Mary Ellen's mother. John is the only one listed as born in NY.; the rest all Wis. Do you know if Mary E. had any siblings / step-siblings? If Mary C was married at 15, the older children could be hers, or they could be her step-children.
I also found what appears to be the same Mary Seller in 1880, age 37, in Pensaukee, Oconto co., WI p. 14B #101-108. No children with her there.
I take it you don't know where she might have died.

I have an e-mail from one of her granddaughters in Colorado. She stated her grandmother Altha was born June 15, 1891 and died 5-14-1989. Her last few years were spent in a nursing home in Appleton. I have a couple of pictures of her celebrating her 90th birthday with the date written on the back June 14, 1981 in a nursing home. They couldn't tell me which nursing home.

I also have a note from another cousin that Mary Ellen had three other siblings, but no names. She told me Mary Ellen was born May 5, 1863 in Buffalo, N.Y. Mary Ellen was married at 15. I found Mary Ellen and Christian Nelson's marriage record on the Wisconsin Historical Society site. She was married 7-18-1878 in the county of Oconto, Volume 04, page 0172 in Little Suamico.

This Mary Seller could very well be Mary Ellen's mother. She was married three times to a Rubenstein, then a Seller, and last a White from what I was told. Mary Ellen would have been seven on the 1870 as she was born in 1863. The boys could be her brothers. I have no idea where Mary C died.
