  Alice Jeanne Niven, age 83, of Manawa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at the Manawa Nursing Center surrounded by her family. She was born May 5, 1921 in Dunbar, WI, daughter of the late Francis Lloyd and Eunice (Parr) Bryant. Alice graduated from Dunbar High School, then traveled to Chicago where she graduated from Michael Reese School of Nursing as an Infant Nurse. She also attended the Vera Jane Modeling and Charm School. She married Lt. Commander David A. Niven in December of 1944. They owned and operated the Gamble Store in Manawa for many years. Alice was a member of the Manawa Methodist Church and was a Past Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed writing and belonged to the Manawa Writing Club. She was especially interested in the history of Manawa and Wisconsin. She also enjoyed flying with her husband in their Cessna 150. She is survived by her husband, David; her daughters: Susan "Nichoe" Lichen, Santa Fe, NM; Rebecca (Douglas) Creamer, Waupaca; a son, David (Kay) Niven, Manawa; nine grandchildren: Donovan (Patti) Mello; Elisha Mello; Ezra and Isaac Engelson; Jennifer Creamer; Jessica (Paul) Ryan; Joshua Creamer; Amber (special friend Brian) and Corey (fiance Michelle) Niven; three great-grandchildren: Michael, Matthew and Jacob Mello; other relatives and friends. Her parents, two brothers: Francis and Daniel Bryant; and a sister, Virginia Borchardt preceded her in death. A memorial service for Alice will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa with Rev. Janis Callahan officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Manawa Community Nursing Center for the wonderful care given Alice. In lieu of flowers gestures of concern may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
