  On Feb. 2nd Jacob Rausch, one of the pioneers of this section of the state and a veteran of the civil war, died suddenly at his home in the town of Woodville at the age of seventy-two years. Mr. Rausch had been in apparently good health and the day previous to his death had visited St. John where he transacted some business. At four o'clock on Thursday morning he awakened his wife, complained that he did not feel well and asked for a drink of water. He seemed to breathe with great difficulty and when his wife returned with the water she found him in the throes of death. A doctor was summoned at once but before he arrived Mr. Rausch was beyond earthly relief. Heart trouble was the cause of his death. Jacob Rausch was born in Germany, June 13, 1838, and came to America with his parents who located in the town of Calumet, Fond du Lac County, in 1849. In 1863 he was married to Elizabeth Weber at Marytown and moved onto a farm in the town of Brothertown now owned by Simon Hoffmann. In 1895 he sold his farm and moved to the town of Woodville where he purchased a farm from Geo. Dix which he sold and later purchased the Wm. Dekarsky farm of 120 acres on which he resided at the time of his death. In 1864 he joined company D of the Thirteenth Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry and served until he was mustered out in November 1865. He was a member of the Jos. B. Reynolds GAR Post of this city for a number of years. The funeral took place on Monday from St. John's Catholic Church with interment in St. John's cemetery. He is survived by a widow, three sons, Jacob of Menasha, Michael and Math at home and four daughters, Mrs. Michael Wolesheim of North Dakota, Mmes. Louis Atkins and Chester Jenks of Minneapolis and Mrs. A. N. Portman of Stockbridge; one brother, Anton of Adams, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Grones of Green Bay.
