    Notes
    • Notes and Info from Mary Gleeson of Limerick - Judy Ryan had 10 children. This is verified by letter of 19, April, 1895 sent by her brother John Ryan (who had the family farm in Gouig, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick) to his stepbrother, Daniel Ryan of Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Judy's son Malachy was the eldest (born 1865). John Ryan's letter says Malachy had 2 brothers and 2 sisters living with him and 2 brothers and 2 sisters in Sydney, Australia. From word of mouth information got from Malachy Dinneen, born 1905, son of Malachy, married to Judy Ryan we know!
      (a) her son Paddy Dinneen died in Australia and was unmarried. He had worked in the mines, possibly the Klondike.
      (b) her son John Dinneen also died in Australia, having worked in the mines. He was unmarried and alleged to have been killed in an accident.
      (c) her daughter, Joanna, went to Australia and was supposed to have married a man named Tierney. She obviously went to Sydney as stated in John Ryan's letter.
      (d) her daughter, Mary Dinneen, went to Sydney around 1883, passage obviously paid for by a Ryan relative in Sydney (see John Ryans letter of 2 7, September, 1883).
These are the two boys and two girls referred to in John Ryan's letter and were presumably next in age to Judy Ryan's son Malachy.
      (e) another son, Daniel, died in his teens in Ireland. He was reputed to be a very strong man and died lifting a very heavy load.
Thus 4 had emigrated and 1 died before Malachy Dinneen, son of Judy, married in 1895.
Of the 4 remaining children: Michael (Mickey) died in Earl Hill, unmarried.
Me', 3 others, Kate, Queenie and Peter also went to Australia, possibly to the mines, because they subsequently went to the goldfields in the Yukon.
