      Jay, As to the above listing, his father was indeed Jacob/Jacob F. Smith, born ca 1815 in New York State, and probably died in Turtle Township, Rock County, WI. Unknown who the mother was outside of Margaret, born ca 1822 in New York State and died 07 Jan 1905 in Outagamie County, WI.

      See 1860 US Census for Jacob F. Smith in Turtle Township, Rock Co., WI.
      See 1880 US Census for Jacob Smith in Town of Rock, Beloit Co., WI; in this census he is listed as age 65 (ca 1815) in New York State.

      See 1860 US Census in Town of Scott, Brown Co., WI on Sept. 15, 1860
      John Hookman, age 37 (ca 1823) in Belgium with Nellie, age 25 (ca 1835) in Holland; with Henry Hookman, age 5 (ca 1855 in WI; and Martin Hookman, age 3/12 1860 in WI.

      George West, age 3 (ca 1867), born in WI; and
      Julia (sic) West, age 1 (ca 1879), born in WI;

      See 1880 US Census for MARTIN HORKMAN, in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI; living with mother, Petronella Nooyen Horkman West, and step-father JOHN West. Martin HORKMANS is listed as a step-son, age 20 (ca 1860) in WI; along with Mary S. FYI, the person listed as LOUISDA HORKMANS was the daughter of Mary Louisa HORKMAN and unknown father. Paul West insists on saying that MARY LOUISA HORKMAN is MARY LOUISA WEST, which is incorrect.

      See 1900 US Census for MARTIN HORKMAN in 4-WD, Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI; Jenny mother of 2 and 1 living;

Cause of death was carcinoma.

      THIS SHOULD CLARIFY THAT SHE WAS BORN MARY LOUISA HORKMAN, not WEST.

      At the time of Margaret Smith's death, she was living with her married daughter, JENNIE (Jenny) SMITH HORKMAN, wife of MARTIN HORKMAN, who was the son of Francis Horkman/Horkmans and Petronella Nooyen. FYI: DAVID FRANCIS HORKMAN born 06 OCT 1865 in Town of Scott, Brown Co., WI; died 15 AUG 1949 in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI; marital status at time of death was widower. Informant on Outagamie County Death Record was Dorothy deJonge.

      In the Netherlands, there is no "y." Thus, it is correctly stated as deJonge. Other children of Mary Louisa Horkman and Charles DeYoung (de Jonge):

      Dorothy de Jonge born 16 May 1899 in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI; died 22 Nov 1989 in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI; burial at St. Joseph Cemetery; father listed as Charles deJonge and mother as Mary Louise Horkman; Occupation: Former Purchasing Agent for Thilmany Mill; residence listed was 836 E. South St.; burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. No Outagamie County, WI birth record; name does appear as Helena on 1900 US Census; death record says "Dorothy de Jonge."

      Mary Louise "Mary" de Jonge born 18 Mar 1889 in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI; died 23 Nov 1967 in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI at St. Elizabeth Hospital; occupation Librarian; father listed as Charles deJonge and mother listed as Mary Louise Horkman; burial at St. Joseph Cemetery (Outagamie Co., Death Record Vol. 83, page 737). Note that she was a librarian in the reference room of the Appleton Public Library and also at the Elisha D. Smith Library in Neenah, WI. (Outagamie Co., Death Record Vol. 122, page 104)

      Francis William alia William Francis DeYoung born 23 Aug 1893 in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI; died 18 Dec 1925 in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI; married; occupation Insurance Agent; father listed as Charles DeYoung born in Holland and mother listed as Mary L. Horkman, born in WI; cause of death was pulmonary tuberculosis as a result of complications from service in WWI; Military: US Army; burial 21 Dec 1925 at St. Joseph Cemetery. Informant on death record was wife, Mrs. Gertrude DeYoung (Outagamie Co., Death Record Vol. 21, page 9 lists name as William F.) (He served in U.S. Army in the 32nd Division in WWI and was in France. He inhaled fumes from gas bombings and developed lung problems). Note after the death of Gertrude Milhaupt DeYoung, the three unmarried deJonge sisters took in the three children of William Francis and Gertrude DeYoung. The deJonge sisters have a long history in Appleton, WI. According to a newspaper article on Mary, Dorothy, and Margaret de Jonge written by Jean Otto and published in the Appleton Post Crescent, the de Jonge family home on 836 E . South St. was purchased by their father in 1925; he died before the family was able to move into it. The 4 unmarried sisters then moved in and through the years did some remodelling and were antique collectors. The article states that their father, Charles DeYoung came to America in 1883. The house was owned at one time by one of the Presidents of Lawrence University; it then was purchased by Mark Catlin, Sr., and then purchased by Charles DeYoung. Photos of the home and contents appear in the newspaper article, along with a picture of the bed where the deJonge sisters were born. (Nice history of this deJonge (DeYoung) family in Appleton.
