  On Thursday evening, Jan. 19, at the home of her son, Edward, Catherine Kennedy, one of the early pioneers of Chilton town passed from this life to the life beyond. Catherine Rodgers was born Jan. 19 in the year 1802, in the county of Donegal, Ireland, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to John Kennedy and in 1824 in company with her husband and parents left Ireland for America. They located in Ohio where they remained until 1854, when she came with her husband and family to the town of Chilton where she resided until her death. A few months after coming to Chilton town her husband was killed while chopping in the woods and the task of caring for the family fell on her. Deeply feeling the loss of her husband and knowing of the hardships of pioneer life she encouraged her family to take hold of the work of clearing a dense wilderness and succeeded in making a home worthy of her efforts. She was a woman who was loved by her children and respected by neighbors and friends for her kind disposition and readiness at assist them in misfortune. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Catholic Church. Her funeral took place on Sunday from St. Augustine's church, Rev. Fr. Taugher, of Appleton delivering the funeral sermon. She is survived by three sons, Edward, and Moses of Chilton, James of Ohio and one daughter, Mrs. Bridget McHugh, of Chilton town. She also leaves an aged brother, Joseph Rodgers and other relatives to mourn her death. Catherine Kennedy Chilton Times January 28, 1893
