I am the youngest of six Hinke children. Born to Nellie and Henry Dressel Hinke on August 29, 1932. I was born and raised in the small town of Stanley Wisconsin during the Great Depression. I had a wonderful childhood, living on a small farm and oblivious of the scarcity of luxurious material things.
My childhood dream of becoming a nurse became a reality in 1953. I graduated from Luther Hospital School of Nursing and Eau Claire Teachers College. My nursing career brought me "the love of my life," Paul, who at the time was a seriously ill patient on my wing in the hospital. He tells me that he made up his mind the minute I walked into his room, in my white uniform and nurses cap, that he was going to marry me. He did, 58 happy years ago, on March 13, 1954, in Stillwater, MN. We have four grown children and their families that we love dearly and enjoy the relationships that we have with all of them. Including our six grandchildren and four great grandchildren (with another on the way)
My most challenging, interesting and rewarding nursing experiences occurred here in Calumet County as a staff Public Health Nurse and then the Director of the Health Department and Home Health Care Agency. What wonderful, kind and caring people we have in this county, and I had the privilege serving them from 1970 -1995, when I retired from the nursing profession.
Paul and I have enjoyed our retirement years traveling throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe. We spent many years volunteering in State and National Parks, meeting people from around the world.
    Love to you all,
    Ella XOXOXO
While home in Brillion, Ella was active in the local Red Hats Club and Women's Club. She worked on numerous committees in Women's Club including Beautify Brillion, Lunch with Santa, Tour of Homes, and assisted with the Women's Club garden on Main Street.
Ella touched many lives in her personal and professional life. Her legacy shall remain as a devoted wife to Paul, a loving mother to her children, an inspiration to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a great humanitarian. Ella will be missed by all.
Survivors include her husband Paul, four children: Robert Guthrie of Burlington, VT, Kim (Randy) Perra of Green Bay, Kevin (Rose) Guthrie of Brillion, Kirk (Peggy) Guthrie of De Pere, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren with another one due soon. She is further survived by brother Dr. Marvin (Helen) Hinke of Madison, brother-in-law Rev. Stanford Strosahl of Sun Prairie, sister-in-laws Keryl Hinke of Fond du Lac, Doris (Richard) Zimmerman of Brookfield, Mary Lee of Eau Claire, Ruth Leigh of St. Cloud, MN, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Dr. Dayton Hinke, Warren Hinke and Don Hinke, sister, Phyllis Strosahl, four brother-in-laws: Robert Guthrie, Bob Lee, James Leigh and Richard Hoffmeister and five sister-in-laws: Ruth Hinke, Donna Hinke, Mary Hinke, Marcella Hinke and Gladys Hoffmeister.
A service of shared memories will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
