- From Donna Dibble Lies Family History; Declaration of a widow from origin al pension, State of Wisconsin, County of MonroeOn the 23 day of December AD, one thousand nine hundred and four personal ly appeared before me, a Notary Public with and for the county and State a foresaid, Katherina Leis, aged 72 years, a resident of Cashton, Coun ty of Monroe, State of Wisconsin, who being duly sworn according to law, m akes the following declaration in order to obtain pension under the ac ts of Congress granting pension to the widows of soldiers and sailors w ho have died by reason of wound or injury received, or disease contracte d, in the service of the United States and in the line of duty:That she is the widow of Bernard Leis, who was enrolled under the na me of Bernard Leis, who was at Jefferson, Monroe County, Wisconsin on t he 19th day of September, 1864 as a private in Company K, 32nd Wisconsin I nfantry Volunteers and who was discharged on the 12th day of June, 1865, a nd who died at Cashton, Wisconsin on the 26th day of April, 1904 of Rheuma tissue Heart Disease incurred in the above named service. That the said s oldier was not in the military or naval service of the United States exce pt as stated above.That the said soldier was born September 2, 1830 at Germany, that his pers onal description at enlistment was as follows: Height 5 foot 4 inches-comp lexion Dark-color of eyes, hazel-color of hair, brown-permanent marks or s cars----none, that his occupation was Farmer.The she was married under the name of Anna Katherine Roders to said soldi er at Granville, Wisconsin on the 16th day of October, 1860 by Martin Wei s, Pastor of Parish; that there was no legal barrier to the marriage th at she had not been previously married, that the soldier had not been prev iously married. That she was never divorced from said soldier and that s he has not remarried since his death.That she has_____ heretofore applied for pension Under Act of June 27, 189 0, Office no. 811446.
