- Donald J. Robinson, Kaukauna, age 83, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born July 26, 1929 in Combined Locks, WI son of the late Ervin and Leona (Stein) Robinson. On May 4, 1967 Don married the former Josie Van Roy-Wirth. The couple lived in the Kaukauna area their entire married lives. Don worked at Thilmany Pulp & Paper, retiring in 1988. Don was a faithful and contributing member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, having served for many funeral masses. He was the best "Dad/Grandpa Fan" there was, having been there for all the kids and grandkid's sporting events. Don was a contributing member of the Kaukauna Moose Lodge, cleaning the lodge for 15 years. He was the "Voice" of the Holy Cross Men's Open Basketball Tournament and the Coach of the Catholic Youth Organization for over 30 years. Don was also the secretary/treasurer of many bowling and golf leagues in the area. He was an avid Brewers and Packer fan having worked at area Packer games for the Kaukauna Athletic Club. Most importantly Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather and cherished his family above all else.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Josie, Kaukauna; his children: Jackie Robinson and special friend Sue Kelley, Linda Heinz, Susie (Greg) Hampshire, Mike Robinson, all of California, Vicki (Gary) Keller, Kaukauna, Debbie (Mark) Nussbaum, Kaukauna, Dale Wirth, LaCrosse, Dean (Deborah) Wirth, Appleton and Tracy Schmidt, Appleton; his grandchildren: Jimmy Robinson, Renee (Josh) Gutting, Christopher (Crystal) Hoffman, Rachel Heinz, Kimberly (special friend Alex) Hampshire, Mike Jr. (Denise) Robinson, Monica (Emmit) Cox, Rachel (Jake) Van Wychen, Erika (J.J.) Young, Tanner (special friend Megan) Nussbaum, Tanya (Robert) Henry, Ashley (special friend Jake) Nussbaum, Lance (special friend Tiffany) Driessen, Brent (Jenn) Driessen, Danielle Wirth, and Hailey Schmidt; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his wife's brother-in-law, Barney Driessen; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife's 3 sisters and 1 brother.
Mass of Christian Burial for Donald will be at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna with Msgr. James Vanden Hogan and Fr. Tom Pomeroy concelebrating. Friends will be received directly at Church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in St. John Cemetery in Little Chute. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
