- Vernon L. "Vern" Vandenberg, of Oshkosh, died Sunday September 24, 2006, at home after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was 54. Vern was born in Appleton on March 31, 1952, to Leo and Marion (De Goey) Vandenberg. On September 4, 2006 he married Kim De Pew. An avid outdoorsman, Vern enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He loved playing the Hum-Strum. Vern especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.
Vern is survived by his wife, Kim of Oshkosh; his father, Leo (Merry Jo) of Freedom; a son, Shawn (Sara) Vandenberg of Kaukauna; two step children: Dave De Pew, Jr. and Davina (Chad) Wilkinson, both of Oshkosh; eight grandchildren: Gina and Teddy Vandenberg, the grandchild that Shawn and Sara are expecting, Devin, Zach, Braedon, Phoenix and Adaya De Pew; brothers and sisters: Jerry (Linda), Lyle (Karen), Ron (Debbie), Roy (Pauline), Carl (Wendi), Denny (Amy) and Leo Jr. (Sharon) Vandenberg, Jan (Tim) Day, Carol Haase and Shirley (Al) Behling; brothers and sisters-in-law: Debra Mosconi, Ronnie, Doreen, Susan, Barbara and Robert Whalen. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vern was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Vandenberg.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday September 28, 2006, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. The Rev. James Hablewitz will officiate. Friends may call Thursday after 2:30 p.m. until the time of Mass directly at church. Committal St. Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
