- Kersten, Josephine J., Josephine J. Kersten, of Appleton, age 91, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2004 at Franciscan Care Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Kaukauna on June 14, 1913, the daughter of the late Joseph and Johanna (TeVurche) Eppinger. She worked many years as a nurses aide at Kaukauna Hospital and St. Paul's Home. She was also an avid Packer fan and loved to knit and make quilts for her family and friends.
She is survived by eight children: Charlotte (Adolph) Bloy, Kaukauna; Joan Jaeckels, Kaukauna; Marion Zwick, MT; Nancy (Clarence) Bowers, Kaukauna; Betty Kersten, Appleton; Bob (Mary) Kersten, Mountain; Ray (Bonnie) Kersten, Appleton; and Mike (Carrie) Kersten, FL; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Josephine is further survived by a sister-in-law: Helen Reinke, Seymour; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Albert Jr; a grandchild, Gary Bloy; a great-grandchild, Jake Welter; a son-in-law, Jim Jaeckels; two brothers: Bernard and Lawrence Eppinger; and two sisters: Helen Nushart and Lorraine Ludwig.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St, with Father Don Zuleger officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of mass at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family wishes to extend their gratefulness to ThedaCare Hospice and the staff of Franciscan Care Center for the wonderful care they gave to mom.
