Mary A. Michalkiewicz, Menasha, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Prairie Home Elder Services. She was born on July 18, 1917, in Appleton, daughter of the late Conrad and Theresa (Foster) Grishaber. Mary was united in marriage to John G. Michalkiewicz on July 15, 1941, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton; he preceded her in death on May 10, 2002, after 60 years of marriage. Mary enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and playing cards. She will always be remembered for her meatloaf, dumplings, and her Sunday chicken dinners.
Mary loved spending time with her family and will be missed by her children: George Michalkiewicz, Ruth Ann (Edward) Schroeder, Kathleen (Leon) Koerner, Thomas (Sally) Michalkiewicz, John (Paula) Michalkiewicz, Judi (Michael) McDowell, David (Linda) Michalkiewicz; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters: Margaret Wellhouse, Gertie Gaffney, Louise Davidson, Virginia Grishaber, Bette Wingrove; a brother, Tom (Corrine) Grishaber; sisters-in-law: Margaret Grishaber, Dorothy Grishaber; brother-in-law: Sylvester (Jane) Michalkiewicz; sisters-in-law, Marie Michalkiewicz, Bernice Kleinhans; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was also preceded in death by brothers: Leo, Arnold, Paul (Loretta), Daniel, Robert Grishaber, Harold (Betty) Grishaber, Richard (Gertie) Grishaber; brothers-in-law: Jerome Wellhouse, Nicholas Gaffney, Ben Davidson, Jack Wingrove, Ed (Alma) Michalkiewicz, Ray (Mabel) Michalkiewicz, Frank Michalkiewicz, Clarence (Peggy) Michalkiewicz, Tony Kleinhans; and sister-in-law: Marcella (Lyle) Veine.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2008, at St. John Catholic Church, 516 De Pere Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Radetski officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will take place in St. John Cemetery, Town of Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
