- Thomas, E. Schommer, born in Appleton, Wisconsin and moved to Rochester, New York June of 1958, went to be with the Lord at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center on Friday, January 18, 2013, at the age of 83 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothea; parents, Elda (John Palmbach) and George Schommer; two brothers, Richard and Paul. Survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Patrick Wright and Linda and Joseph Chiappone, and his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Deborah; sister, Susan (Walter) Drechsel; sisters-in-law, Nancy and Ione Schommer; three grandchildren, Katherine (Jeremy) Cortash, Stephanie and Matthew Wright; step-granddaughter, Sondra (Mike) LeDuc; several nieces and nephews; and many caring friends.
Thomas retired from Eastman Kodak in 1986 after 28 years; served his country in the Air Force and Naval Reserves. He was a dedicated community volunteer with many organizations including the Greece Historical Society, Greece Central School Board, Holy Name of Jesus Church, Greece Chamber of Commerce, and WGMC Radio station.
Thomas's visitation will be held Friday, January 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road; Greece Chapel. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 15 Saint Martins Way, Rochester, NY 14616. Entombment will follow Mass in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, 2652 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, NY 14626 or Greece Historical Society, 595 Long Pond Road, Rochester, NY 14612 in Thomas's memory.
