- Vanden Heuvel, Theresa Marie
Theresa Marie (Bushmaker) Vanden Heuvel, 85, a De Pere resident, entered eternal peace Sept. 26, 2009. She shared her life with Albert Sylvester since May 25, 1946, and joined him in eternal life.
Theresa recently celebrated her 85th birthday surrounded by family and friends. People enjoyed a Swan Club feast with a fashion show of her clothing through the years.
Daughter of John and Augusta (Janssen) Bushmaker, she was the fun-loving sister to five brothers and two sisters. All preceded her in death.
She is survived by in-laws, Joan (John) Bushmaker, Irene (Louie) Bushmaker and Harold and Arleen Vanden Heuvel.
A guiding light for her nine children, Bill (Joy), Elizabeth, aka "Boo" (Ralph) von dem Hagen, Rick (Deb), Nancy (Dave) Stellpflug, Terry, aka "Polock" (Corey) Steffen, Mary (Robin) Adey, Patty (Joe) Champ, Jean (Bill) Lemke, and John, she was a multi-tasker extraordinaire. Ten granddaughters and ten grandsons were deeply loved by their "hugging grandma". Nine great-grandchildren added to a full table at "Grandma's feasts." All benefited from her sewing, baking and knitting skills. Her outstretched arms also embraced her many nieces and nephews.
Friendship was one of her greatest gifts which she shared as she played cards, golfed and bowled. St. Francis Altar Society, National Catholic Order of Foresters, neighbors, old and new, visitors to "The Farm" and the girls at Curves, all appreciated Theresa's gift of friendship. Theresa wove the threads of her faith in God into the relationships of her life.
Visitation continues today at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where Theresa was a member for over 60 years, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Francis, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere, with the Rev. John H. Harper officiating and Rev. Andrew Cribben, O. Praem., concelebrating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
Special thanks to Bellin Hospital and Unity Hospice for extraordinary care and support of her large family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established for the Altrusa House and St. Francis Church.
