- John H. Zwicker, 85, Waunakee, died on Monday February 23, 2009, at the Waunakee Manor Health Care Center. He was born on December 24, 1923, in Appleton, WI, to Walter and Helen (Ryan) Zwicker. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married the former Cecelia Speel and they lived much of their married life in Pelham, N.Y., Wauwatosa and retirement years in Pinehurst, N.C., where John served as an EMT and taught CPR. John was known as a loving and kind gentleman who enjoyed skiing, golf, curling, sailing, and taking his children on camping trips.
Survivors include his wife Cecelia; seven children: Ann Zwicker, Ellen (Dan) Curtin, Kathy (Scott Sklar) Zwicker, Barbara (Mike) Streber, John (Cindie Stone), Paul (Linda) and Julie Lair; eight grandchildren, a sister Margy Vandenberg, Appleton, WI, and a brother Walter (Pat) Zwicker, Paradise, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jim.
A memorial service will be Friday, February 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St John's Catholic Church in Waunakee, Rev Patrick Wendler will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Fri. from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
