- Joyce Marie (Pennings) Abts, 75, Luxemburg, passed away Oct. 17, 2011, surrounded by her family. Born on Nov. 30, 1935, she is the daughter of the late John and Esther (DeDecker) Pennings. Joyce married Calvin Abts at St. Louis Catholic Church in 1955. She worked at the Green Bay Public Schools as a Food Service Supervisor for 15 years and taught for 20 years at NWTC teaching cake decorating, and enjoyed making wedding cakes in her own business. Joyce dedicated her life to serving others. She enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren, playing cards, scrabble, and bingo.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 56 years, Calvin Abts; nine children, Terry (Joseph) Bauer, St. Charles Ill.; Greg (Debbie) Abts, New Franken; Virginia (Jody) Van Laanen, Green Bay; Veronica (Steven) McNicoll, De Pere; Laurie (Richard) Davister, Luxemburg; Barb VandenBush, New Franken; Jan (Tom) Klika, Green Bay; Andy (Peggy) Abts, Luxemburg; Dennis (Elizabeth) Abts, Eau Claire; 34 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, Larry (Arlene) Pennings, Barb (George) Schmelzer, and Richard (Elaine) Pennings.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, Douglas VandenBush; one great-grandchild, Joseph Schmidt; two brothers, Thomas and Jack Pennings; one sister, Mary Sterletske.
Visitation at MALCORE (West) Funeral Home, 1530 W. Mason St. Thursday, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Parish wake service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Friday at St. Joseph's Champion 5996 County Rd. K from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd.
