- Vern A. Werner, Appleton, age 53, died Monday August 23, 2010, at home with his wife at his side after a 15-month battle with colon/liver cancer. He was born in Janesville on November 30, 1956, to Kenneth and Mae (Huettl) Werner. He married Ann Perenboom on May 15, 1999, at Monarch Gardens in Appleton. Vern was a carpenter and worked for Fisher Construction in Janesville, Don Johnson Builders and Mike Lecker Construction, both in Appleton, prior to opening AV Custom Construction LLC in 2005. He was more than just a carpenter, he was a craftsman with wood.
He was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute. Vern loved to spend time at his cottage in Rhinelander. Hunting was his passion. He also enjoyed fishing in Hayward with family. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge Appleton and the NRA. Vern followed the Packers, NASCAR and playing the card game Hand and Foot. He so enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandson Deric (Little Vern).
Vern is survived by his wife, Ann; children: Raechel (Eric) Logan and Ross Werner, both of Appleton; grandson Deric; father Kenneth Werner; siblings: Shirley (George) Uschan, Sharon (Terry) Hoffland, Diane (Ron) Radmer, Stan (Sue) Werner, Terry (Charmaine Kuczmarski) Werner, Sheila (Benjamin) Graf, Jerry (Becky) Werner and Tony Werner; father- and mother-in-law, James "Quack" and Betty Peerenboom; and sisters and brother-in-law: Amy (Mark) Larson, Jane (Mark) Van De Hey, Lisa (Jim) Wydeven, John Peerenboom and Joan (Paul) Eckes. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vern was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Werner; and infant sister Linda.
Visitation will be held Thursday August 26, 2010, beginning at 2 p.m. until time of Mass at 5 p.m. at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St., Little Chute). The Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen will officiate. Committal Mount Olivet Cemetery, Janesville. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for Hospice and the Fox Valley Humane Society.
