- Gilbert F. Schumacher, age 89, of Chilton, died on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Century Ridge, in Chilton. He was born May 26, 1921 in Hilbert, to the late Mathias and Anna (Portmann) Schumacher. Gilbert married LaVerne Fochs on June 7, 1944 at St. Mary's Hilbert and then farmed in the Town of Woodville on the Family Homestead. He was part of the Calumet County Farm Bureau and made farming his life. Gilbert was an honorable man, strove for perfection in all that he did, and most of all he loved his faith and his Lord. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hilbert, served as an usher for over 50 years, and was part of the Catholic Order of Forrester's.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerne; children: Mathias Schumacher and special friend, Irene Kesler, of Hilbert, Wanda Nett and special friend, Barry Brokaw, of Chilton, Susan (Ken) Lemke of Chilton, and Robert Schumacher of Madison; 9 grandchildren: Jenny, Mike (Mindy), and Rachael Schumacher, J. Michael Schwobe and special friend Samantha, Terri (Terry) Russell, Adam Nett and special friend, Holly, Craig, Connie, and Brian Lemke and special friend Sarah; 3 great-grandchildren: David Schwobe, Madlyne Schumacher, and Kyle Russell; and sister, Elnora Propson of Chilton.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Veronica Wolf, Marie Casper, and Otillia Schumacher.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hilbert with the Rev. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at Wieting Family Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2011 with a parish vigil taking place at 7 p.m.
