- John "Orangie" W. Vanden Boogaard, age 84, of Menasha, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Sunday, November 20, 2011, with his family by his side. John was born on November 11, 1927, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He graduated from Kimberly High School in 1946 and then spent two years in the U.S. Army before going to U.W. LaCrosse, graduating in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree. John then coached and taught at Edgar, Wisconsin for two years. Following Edgar, he coached athletics and taught for two years in Freedom, Wisconsin. In 1956 he moved to Menasha High School, continuing his athletic coaching and teaching. In 1959 he received his Master of Science degree from U. W. Oshkosh. John retired from Menasha High School as a Guidance Counselor in 1989 after 37 years in education. Survivors include his four children, Keith (Margie) Vanden Boogaard, Oshkosh; Kurt Vanden Boogaard, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Kim Olson, Menasha; and Kevin Vanden Boogaard, Darboy. He has four grandchildren, Aaron (Melanie) Vanden Boogaard, Oshkosh; Paul Vanden Boogaard, Oshkosh; Sara Olson, Flagstaff, Arizona; and Eric Olson, Santa Cruz, Bolivia. He is further survived by his sister, Rita (Richard) Kane, Kimberly. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends Memorial services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME - TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, Menasha, with Deacon Rick Dvorak officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the RLS Foundation.
