- Helen E. Olson, 86, Neenah, was welcomed into Heaven by her Savior on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Theda Clark Medical Center after heart failure. She was surrounded and comforted by her family. Helen was born on November 19, 1927, in Marinette, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Charles and Amelia (Revoir) Marquardt. She married the late Raymond C. Olson Jr. on January 12, 1948, in Dubuque, Iowa.
Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, baking, crocheting, rug making, sewing, making quilts, puzzles and watching Fox News. Helen put a lot of passion into making her quilts and spent numerous hours making each quilt special for the individual she was making it for. She was always happy to mend clothes that any of her children or grandchildren would bring over in today's "throw away" world. On Sunday afternoons she would enjoy making dinner for her children who stopped by to visit and after dinner she liked to discuss ways to make the world a better place. In her earlier years, she liked to spend time at her cottage on Lily River.
Helen is survived by her children: Terry (Charlotte), Neenah; Penny (Thomas) Hoelzel, Darboy; Steven (Rosemary), Hortonville; Randy (Mary), Neenah; Charles (special friend, Nora Drawenek), Neenah; Peggy Olson, Butte des Morts; Lauree Olson (special friend William Spencer), Neenah; Todd, Neenah; Jeff (special friend Mindy Schoen), Neenah; Troy, Appleton; 30 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; siblings: Evie Verbeten, Dale Marquardt, Wayne "Boots" (Linda) Marquardt, Gary (Mary) Marquardt, and her beloved dog, Molly.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. Olson; children: David Todd and Jody Robert; siblings: Gordy Marquardt, Dorothy Hinkens, Ervin "Bud" Marquardt, Lucille "Toots" Pennings, Norm (Patricia) Marquardt and Bill (Carol) Marquardt.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 900 Geiger Street, Neenah, on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m., with Fr. Larry Seidl officiating. Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah.
Helen's favorite quote is, "Being strong doesn't always mean you have to fight the battle. True strength is being adult enough to walk away from the nonsense with your head held high."
