- Ralph O. Koffarnus, age 75, of Hilbert, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. He was born May 26, 1933, in the Town of Chilton, son of the late George and Helena (Lautenschlager) Koffarnus. On October 20, 1956, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Lau at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion.
Ralph was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hilbert. He also served his community by being on the Village Board and Hilbert Volunteer Fire Department. Ralph served his country with the U.S. Army stationed in Alaska. He was an Army veteran and member of the American Legion Kupsch-Brockman Post #127. He was employed by Brillion Iron Works for 33 years. Ralph enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren who he loved dearly. He liked fishing, golfing and playing cards.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, of 51 years, five children and 13 grandchildren: Debbie (Mike) Bursack, Jared and Justin, Menasha; Jayne (Dan) Rogney, Melissa (fiance Andy Fulcer), Marc, Michael, Appleton; Jim (Mary Beth) Koffarnus, Joey, Hilbert; Julie (Greg) Pritzl, Adam, Rachel, Emily, Ben, Appleton; Bob (Sandi) Koffarnus, Jessica, Derek, Jake, Brillion; two sisters: Lucille Flemming, Milwaukee; Vera (Lawrence) Smallcombe, Three Rivers, MI; one brother: Alvin (Delores) Koffarnus, Hilbert; two sister-in-laws: Elaine (Warren) Giese, Sauk City; Kay Koffarnus, Brillion.He is further survived by Dorothy's family, Gerhard, Jr. (Carolyne) Lau, Potter; Alex (Elaine) Lau, Brillion; Phyllis (Wayne) Koffarnus, Appleton; Erdine (Roger) Schultz, Reedsville; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: Elmer, Norbert, Rueben, Roman and Gerald; two sisters: Esther Muesegades and Mildred Helstrom; Dorothy's parents: Gerhard, Sr. and Rachel (Wenzel) Lau.
A funeral service for Ralph will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2008, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Third Street, Hilbert. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, August 10, 2008, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Monday at 10 a.m. until the time of service with the Reverend Brian Crane officiating. Burial will take place at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Wieting Funeral Home, Brillion is assisting the family with the arrangements.
