- Henry L. Kast, 78, of Sparta, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Lakeview Health Center, West Salem. He was born on September 8, 1930 in Melvina, Wisconsin to John and Gertrude (Leis) Kast.
Henry grew up in the Melvina area. He served in the U.S. Army during Korea. He married the former JoAnn Gronemus on January 15, 1957 in Pine Hollow. After marriage they farmed in Halls Valley in Monroe County. They moved to Sparta in 1959.
Henry owned and operated a service station in Sparta. He then went to work for Sparta Manufacturing and worked there until he retired.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth Kast of Sparta; a daughter, Linda Kast of Hillsboro, WI; two brothers, Vernon Kast of Sparta, Joe (Dori) Kast of Rockland; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kast of Cashton, Janice Kast of Cashton; nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, JoAnn on July 3, 2002; a son, Scott; a daughter, Nancy; four brothers, Herman, Edward, Robert, Sylvester, and a sister, Katherine Schmitz; sisters-in-law, Margaret Kast, Evelyn Kast, Margaret Kast, and a nephew, Jim.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta with Father James Leary O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 2112 will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
