- Bernice H. Vander Velden, Little Chute, age 98 died Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at home. She was born in Little Chute on October 24, 1912, to the late Joseph and Anna (Van Gompel) Verstegen. Bernice was married to Joseph Vander Velden. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1980. She loved to oil paint, rosemal, knit, crochet and sew.
Bernice is survived by her children: Bill, Little Chute; Matt (Kathy), Neenah; Mary Jo (Tom) Lonigro, Little Chute; Ann (friend Earl) Pendleton, Madison; and Rich (Carol), Minnesota; grandchildren: Rachael Vander Velden, Valerie (David) Raatz, Steve (Liz), Rick (Amia) and Jeff (Natosha) Lonigro, Sue (Chuck) Broeren, Barb, Mike (friend Leila) and Pete (Lisa) Pendleton; Kate (Craig) Romenesko; and Kevin (Carolyn) Vander Velden; 20 great-grandchildren; sister Ida (Jim) Peeters; sisters and brothers-in-law: Ilene (Pat) Smith, Loretta Hoelzel and Don Peeters; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her husband and parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her infant son Michael; a great-granddaughter; brothers and sisters: Lester (Peg), Clarence, Robert (Lil), Gerald (Margaret), Ernest (Ann), Joseph (Charlotte), Carl (Marie) and infant Aloysius Verstegen, Regina (Clarence) Bouressa, Joanne Hawley and Irene Peeters; and sister-in-law Julie (Doc) O'Keefe.
Visitation will be held Friday November 26, 2010 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 3 p.m. until time of Mass at 5 p.m. The Rev. Raphael Chiaka will officiate. Committal St. John Cemetery. For on-line condolences please visit www.oconnellfh.com.
