- Leroy J. Klein, 91, died Saturday evening, March 29, 2008, at Grand Horizons, Appleton. He was born Dec. 1, 1916, in Kimberly, the son of the late Joseph and Ann (Welhouse) Klein. On May 1, 1940, he married Kathryn Schwalbach at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Darboy, and enjoyed 50 years of marriage before her death in 1991. Leroy attended Kaukauna High School and worked at Thilmanys from 1940 until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, the Quarter Century Club, Kaukauna Elks Lodge and AARP.
He is survived by his daughters, Dorothy (Richard) Sheehy, Appleton; Kathleen (David) Schommer, Suamico; and Mary Lutzow, Appleton; six grandchildren, Carolyn (John) Machurick, Kaukauna; Jon (Wendy) Mueller, Appleton; Mark Schommer, Suamico; Amy (Jim) Vollmer, Green Bay; Stephanie Lutzow, Appleton; and Andy Lutzow, Appleton; six great-grandchildren, Max and Michaela Machurick, James and Alex Mueller, Alex Vollmer and Lily Lutzow; sisters-in-law, Irma Klein, Hortonville; Irma Wittman, Appleton; Sue Miller, Kimberly; and Lorraine Schwalbach, Little Chute; and brother-in-law, Joseph (Lilia) Schwalbach, Appleton. Leroy is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sherman (Medina) Klein; Edward (Stella) Kline; and Cyril (Stella) (Schwalbach) Klein; sisters-in-law, Lucille (Carl) Grassl, Sr.; Alice (John) Dietzen; and Henrietta (Howard) Thiessen; and brother-in-law, George Schwalbach.
The funeral liturgy for Leroy will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Marty Fox officiating. Leroy will be laid to rest beside his wife, Kathryn, in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church at 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass.
