- Steffens, Charles J. "Chuck"Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away Wedne sday, March 27, 2002 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda, Fl orida. Chuck was born December 31, 1923 to the late Lawrence and Dora Stef fens. He spent his childhood in Appleton and graduated from Appleton We st High School in 1941. Chuck served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. He gra duated from the Business Institute, Milwaukee with a degree in accountin g. Chuck married Betty Hooyman, August 27, 1949, at Saint Mary Catholic Ch urch, Appleton. He was employed as a data processing manager by Kimberly-C lark Corporation in Neenah, Wisconsin, Memphis, Tennessee and Dayton, Ohi o. He retired in 1986 after 30 years of service. Chuck was an avid read er and fisherman and enjoyed doing both at the same time. He also lov ed to garden (especially growing roses), woodworking, golfing, and bowlin g. He was a member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton. Chuck w as an active volunteer in church and civic organizations. He spent many ye ars as a Cub and Boy Scout leader in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to his stro ke in 1993 he was a volunteer at the Saint Joseph Food Pantry for many yea rs. Chuck was a resident of Punta Gorda, Florida since his retirement spen ding winters in Florida and summers in Wisconsin. Survivors are his wi fe of 52 years, Betty; 3 sons and daughters-in-law: Bruce (Cathy) Steffen s, Orlando, Florida; David (Nan) Steffens, Dayton, Ohio; Alan (Nora) Steff ens, Seattle, Washington; four grandsons: Jeremy (Melody), Lafayette, Indi ana; Benjamin, Orlando, Florida; Matthew and Zachary, Dayton, Ohio; a nd a granddaughter, Shannon, Seattle, Washington; brothers and sisters-in- law: Ceil Smith; Marge (Donald) Baer; Mary Keller, and Ken Steffens, a ll of Appleton; Edward (Marian), Santa Barbara, California; Larry (Cleo ), Kelly Lake, Wisconsin; Gene (Connie), Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and many niec es and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Florian and brothers -in-law: Bob Kranhold, John Fentz, Don Keller and Bill Smith; sisters-in-l aw: Mildred Kranhold and Florence Fentz. The Mass of the Resurrection wi ll be held 11 A.M. Tuesday April 2, 2002, at Saint Pius X Catholic Churc h, Appleton, Wisconsin with the Reverend Donald Zuleger officiating. Entom bment will take place at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may ca ll at Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Monday, April 1, 20 02 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until t he time of sevice. A parish wake service will be held Monday, 6:30 P. M. at the funeral chapel.
