- John H. Vanevenhoven, Shiocton, age 62, died Saturday, September 15, 2007, at Appleton Medical Center as the result of a sudden heart attack. He was born in Little Chute on May 13, 1945, to the late Ervin and Martha (Hermsen) Vanevenhoven. John married the love of his life, Janine Romenesko, on July 17, 1965, at Holy Cross Parish in Kaukauna. He was a member of St. Denis Parish in Shiocton. John was a partner at Northside True Value Hardware in Appleton for over 40 years. He was passionate about nature and especially the garden center at Northside. John took great pride in sharing his knowledge of gardening with others during each planting and growing season. He was certified Master Gardener and licensed locksmith. John was a member of the Appleton Area Chamber of Commerce. He had a true talent for building and fixing things. From building birdhouses and garden benches with the "Choir Boys" to cedar strip canoes and a kayak, John's talents are evident. John thoroughly enjoyed fishing and spending time with his treasured friends. John was an ethical businessman of the highest integrity and often did business with a handshake; but above all, he was a great father and a wonderful, loving husband.
John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janine; three sons: Mark (Darlene) of Pahrump, NV, Lee (Tonya) of Little Chute and Jeff (Caroline) of Mukwonago; seven grandchildren: Zachariah, Jacob, Olivia, Noah, Abigail, Ryan and Reese; he was eagerly expecting an eighth grandchild in the spring; brothers and sister: Robert (Sue), Don "Chick," Carol (Jerry) Berghuis and Paul (Sue); his mother-in-law, Mildred M. Romenesko; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Carolyn (Bill) Shepeck, Jim Romenesko and Bonnie Vanevenhoven. John is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald; father-in-law, Mark W. Romenesko; and sisters-in-law: Myra and Donna Vanevenhoven.Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday September 21, 2007, until the time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Parish (500 W. Marquette, Appleton). The Rev. Thomas Farrell will officiate. Committal St. John Cemetery, Little Chute.
