Hendri na Berendsen was born on March 25, 1836 at 12:30 a.m. to Johannes Henric us and Catharina Hebing Berendsen. Her sponsors were Atbert Hebing and Joh anna Berendsen. Hendrina was known to her niecess and nephews as "Tanta Di na. The above information was compiled by a grandclu'td of Bernard Mart in Berendsen using notes written by Johannes Henricus Berendsen. The infor mation was then given to Marilyn Berendsen Stodola by Jean Kuborn.Dina, age 19, left Havre, France on the ship "George F. Patton" with her p arents and seven siblings. The family arrived in New York on June 1l, 185 6. The above information is in the Charleston, WV - Historical Archiv es - "Dutch Immigrants In U.S. Ship Passenger Manifests, 1820-1880 - V ol 1, Ash to Meller" Scholarly Resources Inc. Wilmington, Delaware.Hendrina (Dina) Berendsen was 24 years old, a spinster, and living at ho me when the 1860 (2nd) census was taken on 28 July 1860. The family home w as in the town of Freedom, Outagamie County, Wisconsin. Hendrina was bo rn in Holland. The above information is from the 1860 (2nd) Wisconsin Fede ral Census, Monroe, Oconto, Outagamie Counties, Wisconsin, Film 805424, to wn of Freedom, Outagamie County, Wisconsin, Page 143, lines 27 through 3 4, Mormon History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah.In 1856 Arnold Hurkman was married to Jane Verstegen of Little Chute, w ho died one year later, and in 1861 Mr. Hurkman was married to Hendrina Be rendsen, who came from Holland with her parents, Henry and Katherina Beren dsen, locating in Freedom township. To this union there were born six chil dren.Mrs. Hurkman died December 27, 1910, aged seventy-seven years, in the fai th of the Holy Cross Catholic Church of Kaukauna, of which her husband h ad also been a member. The above two paragraphs are found on Page 934 of " History of Outagamie County," Thomas H. Ryan, Editor; Chicago Goodspeed Hi storical Association Publishers. Published in 1911.Hendrina Berendsen Hurkman was the mother of Anna Hurkman. Anna married Ma rtin Gloudemans and they had a daughter, Rose Gloudemans. Rose was bo rn in her grandmother's farm house and later she lived there to help her g randmother (Hendrina Berendsen Hurkman). Rose told her daughter, Valery Va nevenhoven, that Hendrina was a gvod person. She (Hendrina) had six childr en and always wanted them to be happy at home. Hendrina furnished balls, b ats, etc. for the boys and neighbor boys to play ball at home. Rose marri ed one of those neighbor boys. Hendrina had an open sore on her breast a nd it probably was the cause of her death. It may have been cancer.

- See image Pioneer Dead - Mrs Hendrina Hurkman di ed Tuesday age 74, born in Holland 3/15/1826, came to the US and settl ed in Freedom in 1856, in 1863 she married Arnold Hurkman who died in 188 6. One of her brothers, B.M. Berendson was register of deeds for Brown cou nty for 18 years, another brother H. T. was justice of the peace. Surviv ed by children Mrs Anna Deering, Kaukauna; Mrs Mary Gloudemans, Grand Chut e; Mrs Nellie Vandenberg of Little Chute; and John, Ben and Henry of Kauka una, also 2 brothers, L.B. of Green Bay and Arnold of Phlox. Interme nt at Holy Cross.
