- Donald P. Gonnering, Freedom, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at St. Paul Villa. He was born April 21, 1932 in the Town of Freedom, son of the late John and Catherine (Verstagen) Gonnering. Don lived in the Freedom area his entire life. He was an US Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. On May 3, 1955 he was united in marriage to Lois Verbeten and they recently celebrated their 57th anniversary. Don was a cattle dealer and auctioneer in the area for over 50 years. He owned and operated GK Auto Sales in Freedom since 2001. Don was the Freedom Town Board Supervisor, a member of Freedom VFW Post #7692, Freedom Lions Club, Fox Valley Golf Course, and a long-standing and faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Don enjoyed golfing, Friday night fish, ice cream, and homemade pie. Most importantly, he loved spending as much time as possible with his family.
Don is survived by his wife, Lois; a daughter, Deb (Tim) Schuh; two grandchildren: Greg (Tiffany) Kavanaugh and Stephanie (Dave) Linsmeyer; five great-grandchildren: Brady, Bennett, and Sydney Kavanaugh, Carsen and Dawson Linsmeyer; three sisters: Lorraine Vandenberg, Rosie Stoffel, and Patricia (Jerry) Kittiko; two brothers and a sister-in-law: William Gonnering, Gene Gonnering, and Sharon Gonnering. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Jack and Orville, and a sister, Adelle.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Freedom with Fr. Dave Hoffman officiating. Friends will be received on Monday, May 28, 2012 at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. with a parish prayer service at 7:30 concluding the evening. Friends may call again on Tuesday directly at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following the service full Military Rites will be performed by VFW Post #7692 at the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
