- Carol J. Remter, age 82, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Century Oaks with her loving husband at her side. Carol was born in Appleton on March 26, 1934, to the late Edwin and Louise (Willenkamp) Bartz. She graduated with the class of 52 at Appleton High School. On June 11, 1953, Carol was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, William Remter at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Appleton. The couple were blessed with three children and celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year. Carol followed her husband's military career for over 21 years and formed many wonderful friendships along the way. She was a lifetime member of the Appleton VFW 2778 where she was a president of the Ladies Auxiliary. Carol was also active at her church where she participated in many women's groups and helped put together the weekly bulletins. Something dear to her heart was making gowns for still born babies and donating them throughout the area to thirteen different hospitals. She loved bowling, spending time at the family cottage, her canine fur balls, and the great outdoors - but most of all, Carol enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Carol is survived by her husband, William Remter, Appleton; her son, Michael (Pam) Remter, Town of Buchanan; two daughters: Sue (Steve) Schmidt, Larsen, WI and Laurie (Dennis) O'Dell, Greenville; 8 grandchildren: Eric Remter, Nick Schmidt, Jennifer Mocine, Courtney Smet, Drew Schmidt, Kristen Nickelatti, Evan Schmidt, and Weston Schmidt; 10 great grandchildren: Jacob, Joey, Josie, Landen, Owen, Aiden, Andrea, Lilyanna, Emmett, and Hailyn; 2 brothers: Roy (Judy) Bartz, Neenah and Jim (Kay) Bartz Appleton; and her sister, Elaine Jentz, Appleton.
She was preceded in death by her grandson "Evan in Heaven", her parents Ed and Louise Bartz, mother and father-in-laws Clarence and Ruth Remter, and brother-in-law Harlon Jentz.
A funeral service will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, October 8, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 3009 N. Meade St., Appleton, with Rev. Dee Sim officiating. Friends and relatives may visit at the church on Saturday from 1 pm until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs at Brewster Village and Century Oaks for the compassionate care shown to Carol.
