- Louis VOSTERS. Prominent among the farmers of Vanderbroek township m ay be mentioned Louis Vosters, a reliable citizen and energetic farmer w ho has been identified with agricultural affairs in this locality for ma ny years and now the owner of an excellent farming property. H-e was bo rn in a. log cabin on his father's farm in Vandenbroek township, Outagam ie county, October 6, 1861, and is a son of Joseph and IHattie (Hendrix) V osters, who came to this country in 1855 from Holland. Mr. Vosters' paren ts settled first in Little Chute, where Joseph Vosters found employme nt on the Government canal, and continued to work there for fifteen or twe nty years. He then purchased land just a mile north of the village, erecti ng a cabin in the woods, which was later replaced by a more comfortable dw elling, and he continued to engage in agricultural pursuits, adding from t ime to time to his acreage, until his death, March 17, 1893, when he had r eached the age of seventy-two years. His widow survived him until March 2 1, 1911, and was eighty years of age at the time of her demise. Louis Vost ers was one of a family of eleven children, and his education was secur ed in the district schools of his neighborhood, which he attended wh en he could be spared from his duties on the farm. He continued to work f or his father until he had attained his majority, at which time he went no rth into the woods and spent seven winters there, the summers being spe nt on the home farm, and he also was for one year a resident of Minnesot a, working at threshing and in the brick yards. On August 26, 1887, Mr. Vo sters was married to Katherine Johnson, who was born in Vandenbroek townsh ip, daughter of John Johnson, and after marriage Mr. Vosters purchased eig hty acres of partly cultivated land. He erected a house and other buildin gs and put the property in good condition, and when he sold it some yea rs later he did so at an advance of 100 per cent. He then purchased proper ty in the village of Kaukauna, but during the following spring purchased h is present farm, on which he has resided since 1898.
He carries on general farming, and his hard annd persistent labor has brou ght its reward, as he has one of the highly productive and valuable trac ts of his township, his buildings being in excellent condition, the proper ty well fenced and graded, and presenting a neat appearance in general th at testifies to the presence of good management. Mr. and Mrs. Vosters ha ve had two children: Joseph and Herman. They are consistent members of S t. John's Catholic Church of Little Chute.
