  Shiocton - Age 91, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Good Shepard Home in Seymour. He was born in the Town of Bovina on the family farm, son of the late Henry and Rose (Dollar) Van Straten. Roy graduated from Shiocton High School and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He lived and farmed near Shiocton until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton. Roy enjoyed hunting and fishing and trips to the casino. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Harold (Marcella); Dale (Phyllis) (Lorraine); Lloyd (Marion); Raymond (Lillian); two sisters, Frances "Tootie" Van Straten and Margaret (Bobbie) Gill. Mass of Christian Burial for Roy will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton, Fr. Richard Allen and Deacon Ken Bilgrien will co-officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, full Military Rites will be held. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Good Shepherd Nursing Home staff and the Hospice staff for the care they gave to Roy.
