- Age 89, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2002, at his home. He was born Aug ust 11, 1912, in Freedom; son of the late Frank and Anna (Nienhaus) Applet on. On April 30, 1936, he married Irene Garvey at Immaculate Conception Ca tholic Church, Oneida. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2001. Togeth er they farmed in Oneida Township until their retirement in 1974. Orvil le represented the Town of Oneida on the Board of Education for the Freed om School District. He served as a director of the Freedom State Bank, pre sently known as Bank One, from 1960 to 1986. Orville was a charter memb er of the Freedom Lions Club. Lions International honored him with the dis tinguished Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for outstanding community servic e. Orville was a charter member and was granted a life-time honorary membe rship in the Knights of Columbus, Council 8061, Freedom. He was a memb er of the Freedom Golden Agers and a life-long member of St. Nicholas Cath olic Church, Freedom.
Survivors include his children: Margaret (Lee) Blohm, Appleton; Betty (Jo e) Garvey, Freedom; Jim (Dot) Appleton, Green Bay; Pat (Gwen) Appleton, Sc ottsdale, Arizona; Karl (Barb) Appleton, Green Bay; Barb (Mike) Schneide r, Freedom; Ann (Archie) Stam, Green Bay; 18 grandchildren: Laura (Crai g) Pitts, Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Patrick (Carolyn) Blohm, Jacksonville, Flo rida; Kathy (Todd Sattler) Blohm, Bismarck, North Dakota; Brenda (Steve Be nck) Blohm, Portage; Maria (Jim) Ellis, Atlanta, Georgia; Christopher Bloh m, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Joe (Sara) Garvey, Dusseldorf, Germany; John (Chels e) Garvey, Freedom; Dan (fiancee Nicole) Garvey, Sheboygan; Dawn (Dan) Deg eneffe, Todd (Lori) Appleton, Jim (Kim) Appleton, and Jason (Nikki) Applet on, all of Green Bay; Patrick Appleton II and Michael Appleton, both of Sc ottsdale, Arizona; Andrea Appleton, Davenport, Iowa; Ryan Scherer, Menomon ie; Megan Stam, Green Bay; 28 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Clarenc e) Schlimm, Freedom; a brother, Robert Appleton, Oneida. He is further sur vived by his wife's family: Mike (Florence) Garvey, Oneida; Bill (Rosemar y) Garvey, Appleton; Robert "Buzz" (Grace) Garvey, Freedom; and a sister-i n-law, Linda Garvey, Oneida.
He was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, June Appleton and Kay Appl eton; and a brother-in-law, Jim Garvey.
Friends may call Thursday, January 17th, at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Hom e, Seymour, from 3 to 8 p.m., with a Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m., a nd on Friday from 9 a.m. until the cortege leaves for the church. The Fune ral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church, Freedom, wi th Fr. Dannis Ryan officiating.
