AppletonAge 87, died at Colony Oaks Care Center on Friday, May 10, 2002. He was bo rn to the late John and Jane (Hooyman) Weyenberg in Freedom on October 1 2, 1914. Following Gene's schooling, he helped his parents on their farm u ntil he started farming on his own. On November 15, 1934 he married Pauli ne Stephani in Black Creek. She preceded him in death on December 25, 200 0. They raised three children together. Gene and Polly enjoyed music, danc ing and playing cards. Gene also enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, and bo wling; further, he enjoyed being with his family.Gene is survived by two sons: Bob (Florus) Weyenberg, Freedom and Gene (Do nna) Weyenberg, Jr., Moshawquit Lake, Wisconsin; a daughter, Shirley (Jo e) Geurts, Freedom; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, two brother s: Orville (Marge) Weyenberg and Clyde (Ardene) Weyenberg, both of Freedo m; a sister, Irene Stephani, Appleton; two brothers-in-law: Leon Splett er and Bill Martzahl, both of Appleton; three sisters-in-law: Marcella Ret tler, Caroline (Milo) Rettler, and Helen Murphy, all of Black Creek.Gene was preceded in death by his wife Polly, his parents, Polly's parent s: Arnold and Mary Stephani, two brothers: Ray (Ev) Weyenberg and Mervin ( Myrtle) Weyenberg; two sisters: Martha (Ted) Van Dyke and Dorothy Spettle r; five brothers-in-law: Al Stephani, Leo (Ethel) (Vi) Stephani, Ray (Mar y) Stephani, John Murphy and Jerome Rettler; two sisters-in-law: Isabel (C yril) Fries and Dorothy Martzahl; and a grandson-in-law, Bruce Van Grinsve n.The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at S T. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Freedom, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Fr iends will be received at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of t he service. Burial will immediately follow the liturgy at St. Nicholas Cem etery.The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Colony Oaks Care Ce nter.
