- Roman P. Sprangers, age 94, a resident of the Terrace Estates in Sheboygan, passed away on Saturday December 13, 2008 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 21, 1914 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Theodore and Ernestine (Beiersdorf) Sprangers. He graduated from Sheboygan High School in 1932.
Romie served his country in the Army Air Corp during WWII. On January 5, 1946, Romie married the former Caroline "Kelly" Timm. She preceded him in death on December 22, 1969. On January 30, 1971, he married Jeanette (Verhulst) Trempe.
Romie had been a projectionist for many of the local movie theaters, including the Majestic. Following his retirement from the Schultz Sav-O Warehouse in 1975, he and Jeanette moved to Largo Florida where they lived for 32 years. In July of 2007 they returned to Sheboygan to be closer to family.
A gifted musician, Romie played the piano, organ and accordion. He loved Polka music, dancing and playing cards.
He was a former member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church where he had been head usher for many years; C.Y.O. leader and active on many boards and councils of the church. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Rosary Council # 722.
Surviving Roman is his loving wife, Jeanette; six children, Ann (Paul) Govek, Diane (Larry) Hackbarth, Patricia Kevin, Mark (Karen) Sprangers, Bruce (Lynn) Sprangers and Neil (Leigh) Sprangers; 14 grandchildren: Jeffrey, Kelly Jo Simpson, Steven and Matthew Govek; Kate Malmon; Eric Trempe; Darrin Kevin and Heather Rivera; Kurt, Kristin and Michael Sprangers; Sarah Dykstra and Megan Sprangers; and Kyle Sprangers; 6 great grandchildren, one sister, Rita Jansen; one sister-in-law, Janice Posner; one brother-in-law, Bernard Gruenke and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Roman was preceded in death by his first wife, Caroline; a son, David Trempe; a son-in-law, Christopher Kevin; two sisters, Mary Ann Gruenke and Bernice Nisleit; two brothers, Theodore and Eugene Sprangers, as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Roman on Wednesday December 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Reverend James Connell will be celebrant, assisted by son-in-law Deacon Paul Govek. Private interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call on the family at the CHURCH on Wednesday from 12 Noon until the time of the Mass.
A Memorial Fund has been established in the name of Roman P. Sprangers.
