- Verhagen, Richard G. "Rich", Richard Verhagen, 86, Kaukauna, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 23, 2010, at Appleton Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born on March 6, 1924, in Kaukauna, the son of the late Harry and Christine (VandenHeuvel) Verhagen. On May 6, 1947, he married Blanche Verhagen at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly. Rich was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He was employed at the Combined Locks Paper Mill for 39 years, retiring in 1986.
Rich enjoyed golfing, bowling and deer hunting with his sons in Tigerton. After his retirement, he would spend time at Partridge Lake in Fremont, fishing. Rich loved his farm, his garden and most of all his family.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Blanche Verhagen; 11 children, Bev (Clarence) Weyers, David (Audrey) Verhagen, Mary (special friend, Tom) Lappen, Jeff (special friend, Cindy) Verhagen, Sheila (Bob) Cook, Dennis (special friend, Joy) Verhagen, Rick (Karen) Verhagen, Catherine Reetz, Brian Verhagen, Alan (Julie) Verhagen and Susan Verhagen; 25 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Rosin and Mary Jean VanLanen; brother, Paul (Theresa) Verhagen; three sisters-in-law, Donna Verhagen, Irene Verhagen and Delores Hennessey; and two brothers-in-law, Eugene (Rosie) Verhagen and Russell Hassell. Rich is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia (James) Lambie; an infant great-grandson; sister, Leone (Frederick) VandeHey; brothers, Joe Verhagen, an infant brother Joe, Earl Verhagen and Mark Verhagen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Mary Verhagen; sister-in-law, Yvonne Hassell; brothers-in-law, Eugene VanLanen, Ervin Rosin, Harlan (Ann) Verhagen, Marvin Verhagen, Averd (Gladys) Verhagen, Clayton Verhagen and Ken Hennessey.
The funeral liturgy for Richard will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna. Father Tom Pomeroy will be officiating. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery. A visitation will take place on Tuesday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
