- Hooyman, Gerald A. Sr.Gerald A. Hooyman Sr., "Jerry" Appleton, Jerry, age 88, died Wednesday, Au gust 18, 2004, at his home. He was born on July 2, 1916, in Freedom, to t he late Herman and Anna (Murphy) Hooyman. He married Leora Dreier on Apr il 26, 1941, in Appleton. Jerry proudly served his country in the United S tates Army for 36 months in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and was lat er a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was employed at Appleton Pa per for 33 years as a machine operator, retiring on July 1, 1978. Jerry w as also a well-loved school bus driver following his retirement. Both Leo ra and Jerry enjoyed dancing; they were known as the "King and Queen of Cl ark Street" at dances.Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Leora; their children, Judi (Denn y) Noie, Kimberly; Jerry Hooyman, Racine; Diane Hopfensperger (Don Hagany ), Appleton; Mary Ellen Bolland, Madison; Mike (Resa) Hooyman, Menasha; a nd Susan (Phil) Eldredge, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Scott (Dawn) Timme rs, Rebecca (Tim) Rink, Steve Timmers, Ric (Stevie) Timmers, Lisa (Davi d) Merkel, Lori (George) Chapes, Bret (Amy) Hooyman, Chad (Amy) Hopfensper ger, Julie Hopfensperger, Whit Bolland, Anna Bolland, Polly Bolland, Broo ke Hooyman, Matt Hooyman, Charlie Eldredge, Jenny Eldredge, and Amy Eldred ge; seven great grandchildren; his brothers and sister, Edward (Betty) Hoo yman, Alice Much, Ervin (Judy) Hooyman and George (Donna) Hooyman; and h is sister-in-law, Marian Hooyman.He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brad Hopfensperger, two siste rs and two brothers.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2004, at FAI TH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 East Glendale Avenue, Appleton, with Rev. Ma rk H. Abram officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday fr om 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again directly at the church on Saturday from 10: 00 a.m. until the time of services.
