- Wendel, Mary J.Mary J. Wendel, of Little Chute, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at her home su rrounded by her family. She was 72. Mary was born in Little Chute on M ay 5, 1934, to the late Edward and Adriana (Jansen) Van Linn. She loved co oking and being with family and friends. Mary was a cook at the Moasis Res taurant for 15 years and was then employed at Tuckers Inn for 18 years unt il her illness forced her retirement. She greatly enjoyed working for h er dear friends, Larry and Carol Van Lankvelt.Mary is survived by nine children: Jim Wendel, Brillion; Tom (Amy) Wende l, Kimberly; Tim Wendel, Kaukauna; Donald (Ann) Wendel, Appleton; Debor ah (Kurt) Houg, New London; Charlene (Todd) Franco, Little Chute; Chris (G ene) Schroeder, Greenville; Richard Wendel, Kaukauna; and Joanne (Mike) Wr ege, Oshkosh; seventeen grandchildren; one brother and two sisters: John V an Linn, Linda Schabo and Sandy Vandehey; and brothers and sisters-in-la w: Tom Schabo, Gene Vandehey, Joe Biesterveld, Delaine Van Linn and Rita V an Linn. Mary is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives a nd friends.In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her life long co mpanion, Edward Wendel; a son, Paul Wendel; two sisters: Gladys Biesterve ld and Elaine Honick; and three brothers: Ed, Bill and Bob Van Linn.The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. Monday until time of funer al at 5 p.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. Committ al St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has be en established.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jen from Aurora V NA Hospice for her kind care.No words can express the loss we feel today, you loved each of us childr en in your own special way. When we needed you, you were always there, y ou always had the time to spare. Teenage years were kind of rough, but tog ether we made it through all that stuff. Years went by, us kids made our o wn homes, we'd still show up at your house, sometimes for reasons unknow n. We faced adulthood with you by our side, we watched you hold your grand children with so much pride. You are our family's rock, our foundation. W ho else could have made the best potato salad ever for all those family ce lebrations? You enjoyed your job at Tucker's Inn, the Lord had different p lans for you that were about to begin. Cancer struck in the usual unexpect ed way, yet you remained positive day after day. You told us kids, "I've h ad a good life" although you were ill, you worried about family strif e. In those final months, your comfort and care is what we were after, w ho would have thought we'd still share so much laughter. It's easy to lo ok at the bad things happening now and feel this is so wrong. But in the b igger picture of life, we were blessed because we had you so long. Mo m, go rest in peace.
