- George A. Rooyakkers, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1931 in Appleton to the late George and Cecilia (Vandenberg) Rooyakkers. On April 28, 1952 he was united in marriage to Audrey B. Van Dyn Hoven at St. John Nepomocene Catholic Church in Little Chute and together they celebrated 58 loving years. The couple was blessed with six children. George was a US Marine Corps Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was employed as an insurance agent with Northwestern Mutual Life for over 25 years until his retirement. He was a founding member of the Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was a long-standing and active member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Hollandtown. George enjoyed golfing, traveling, wintering in Arizona, and especially time spent with family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Audrey; his six children: Linda (Warren) Schneider, Dennis (Sue), Diane (Budford) Gadow, Paul (Tammi), Alan (Julie), and Joe; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters: Cora Ulmen, Theresa Bongers, Everett (Mary), Ceil (Ray) McCormick, and Leo; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Helen Rooyakkers, Ethel (Maury) Brockman, Mary Jo Rooyakkers, Alice Mignon, Carol (Ivo) Haen, Clyde (Jackie) Van Dyn Hoven, Richard Hoks, and Gene Vande Hey. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his grandson, Bret Rooyakkers, siblings and in-laws: Peter, Paul, Hank (Joan), Tony, Francis, Bernadette, Mary (Dick) Van Lanen, Ray Bongers, Carl Ulmen, Marge Rooyakkers, Laverne Hoks, Don Mignon, and Virginia Vande Hey.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. FRANCIS CHURCH, County Rd CE, Hollandtown with Fr. Jerry Pastors and Fr. Bob Vandenberg co-officiating. Friends may call at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in George's name is being established. Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna is assisting the family.
