- Diane H. (nee Kons) Matuszak, Appleton, age 78, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital following complications of a heart attack suffered on Mother's Day. Diane was born on November 28, 1931, to the late Jacob and Anna (Heimmerman) Kons and has resided her entire life in Appleton. After the death of her father, she helped raise her siblings, and also took care of her mother in her later years.
On November 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to LeRoy R. Matuszak at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Darboy. The couple has enjoyed over 55 years together. Diane loved waitressing, and truly enjoyed meeting so many people throughout the years at the Darboy Club, Country Aire, and most recently at the VFW. She retired in 2010 after 40 years. She's also worked in the past at Zwicker Knitting Mill and Atlas Paper. Diane was a hard worker who enjoyed a clean home and felt blessed to be able to clean for others.
Diane's faith was immeasurable as was her generosity to numerous missions and St. Bernadette Catholic Church, of which she was a charter member.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband LeRoy, Appleton; three sons: LeRoy (Mary) Matuszak, Green Bay, and their daughter Rachel; Denis (Julie) Matuszak, Menasha, and their children Kristin (Jon) Link, Seth, Trevor and Emily; and Tom (Anne) Matuszak, Appleton, and their children Heather (Michael) Hennlich, Thomas, Benjamin and Michael; two daughters: Mary Ann (John) Miller, Eau Claire, and their children Andrew, Mitchell, and Lindsey; and Janet (John) DeWitt, Appleton, and their sons Nathan, Noah, and Elias; six brothers: Alex (Cresentia) Kons, New Zealand, Merlyn (Marie) Kons, Ogdensburg, Jacob (Lucia) Kons Jr., Richardson, TX, Leander Kons, Chilton, Hugo (Sharon) Kons, Appleton, and Gerald (Jean) Kons, Illinois; brothers- and sisters-in-law: LaVerne Kons, Neenah, Harvey (Phyllis) Matuszak, Seymour, Eleanor Zakowski, Green Bay, Dorothy Kons, Menasha, Norbert (Marlene) Matuszak, Seymour, Alice VandenLangenberg, Seymour, Barbara Socha, Seymour, Bill (JoAnn) VandenLangenberg, Seymour, Alvin (Marilyn) Socha, Seymour, Ronald Matuszak, Seymour, and Richard (Marge) Matuszak, Seymour. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Gregory, Norman, Bernard and infant brother Adrian; three sisters: Eileen, Kathleen and infant sister Catherine; two granddaughters: Angela Matuszak and Emma DeWitt; her father- and mother-in-law Bill and Mary Matuszak, four brothers-in-law: Roger Zakowski, Larry VandenLangenberg, Emil Wolff and Joseph Socha; and two sisters-in-law: Betty Kons and Rosemary Kons.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 12 noon on Saturday, May 22, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr., Appleton, with Father Donald Zuleger officiating. Friends may visit from 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday, May 21, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel, and directly at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Parish Prayer Service will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Interment will take place at Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery, Darboy. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, second-floor staff and the valet parking attendants at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
