- Margaret T. McVey, 94, Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2016. The former Margaret Tucker was born March 31, 1922 in Askeaton, WI, to the late Edward and Sadie (Summers) Tucker. She married Vernon R. McVey on August 29, 1946, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Askeaton, WI. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2001. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996.
Margaret graduated from Wrightstown High School and Outagamie County Normal School. She taught school for several years in a rural one room school and later when her children were older at St. Philip School in Green Bay. She was a member of Brown County Retired Educators Association. Margaret and Vernon were proud of their Irish heritage and were members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Margaret was a long-time member of St. Philip Church and of the Altar Society.
Margaret's family was very important to her. She loved and cared deeply for her family and treasured the time spent traveling with them.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Herb Waymire, Green Bay, Kathleen and Dean DeBroux, De Pere; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Christine McVey, St. Louis, MO, and Edward and Cathy McVey, Elm Grove, WI; seven grandchildren: Kathryn (Adam) Greene, Erin Christensen, Patrick (Cathy O'Connor), Brian, and Caitlin McVey, and Meredith and Michael McVey; four great-grandchildren: Claire and Emily Christensen and Madelyn and Bryna Greene; one sister, Dorothy Hubert, De Pere; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; parents, Edward and Sadie Tucker; three sisters: Mary Tucker, Catherine Klister, and Helen Klister; and three brothers, Charles, Patrick and John Tucker.
Family and friends may visit Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., Green Bay, on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 10 a.m. Following the visitation there will be a procession to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 312 Victoria St., Green Bay, for a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Gary Pennings officiating. Entombment will follow at Allouez Catholic Mausoleum. Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.
Margaret's family wishes to thank all of the wonderful staff at Birch Creek Assisted Living who so lovingly cared for our Mom. They and the residents have become part of our family.
