- Her life began on May 26, 1921, in Kaukauna and ended on Sunday, July 8, 2007, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Daughter to Arthur and Anna (DeKoch)VanBoven, she was the first of two children, being only eleven months older than her sister, Ila Mae. In later years, she fondly recalled many happy days of her adolescence spent in Weyauwega and Fremont, Wisconsin; in her adulthood, she enjoyed her family of three children (Ronald, Ronna and Patt), and later her four grandchildren (Kelly, Lisa, Bryant, Jody); ten great-grandchildren (Eric, Sarah, Evan, Gabe, Zoe, Noah, Jon, Emma, Adam and Christopher; and three great-great-grandchildren (Kianna, Abigail and Trinity)). Married to Robert (Bud) Hoffmann, "Poochie", as she was nicknamed, in later years often spoke of the good life she'd had, with an opportunity to travel with him to long-dreamed-of destinations like Japan, Thailand, Greece, and Italy. Predeceased by Robert on June 5, 1990, Vernetta took the bold step two years later of leaving Green Bay - her home for 32 years - and moving to Pompano Beach, Florida. Whether in the swimming pool, playing cards with friends, or shopping on Rodeo Drive, she enjoyed fifteen years of life in the sunbelt before succumbing to age-related debilities.
Shortly before her death, her adult children brought Vernetta back north; she stayed near her son Ronald in Stevens Point until her demise. In her last days, she said of her life. "I did it my way" (delivered with a sparkling smile).

on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2007, from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Patrick's Church in Stiles, Wisconsin, one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2007. Burial will take place in the Abrams/Stiles Cemetery.
