- Raymond Frank Sensenbrenner, 87, Appleton, WI, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008, surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ray was born July 24, 1920, in Menasha to William J. and Therese (Hackstock) Sensenbrenner. He married Margaret (Midge) I. Gear on September 6, 1941. Midge passed away on December 30, 2003.
Ray served his country during World War II as a navigator in the 306th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force on a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber. He was stationed in England for four years. After the war Ray worked for Kimberly-Clark Corporation in sales in Neenah, Munising, MI and Chicago, IL. He retired in 1985 after 46 years of service.
Ray attended the College of Idaho, Caldwell, Idaho, and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Ray was a former member and usher at Sacred Heart and St. Joseph parishes, Appleton. Later he joined Holy Name of Mary, Maplewood, WI, and Sacred Heart parish, Punta Gorda, Florida.
Ray was a former Commander of the Harvey Pierre Post 2778, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Appleton; Cubmaster of Pack 25 Scouts; member of Burnt Store Marina Country Club, Punta Gorda, Florida, Elks Clubs, Appleton and Sturgeon Bay, and the Knights of Columbus, Appleton.
Ray enjoyed hunting, golf and gardening at his Lake Michigan Door County home. He loved planting trees and bird watching. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Ray is survived by his daughter Mary Jo (Erick) Jensen, Appleton; sons, Richard R. (Julie) Sensenbrenner, Appleton and James B. (Carol) Sensenbrenner, Appleton, 12 grandchildren, Rick (Karen) Sensenbrenner, Atlanta, GA, Jeff (Christina) Sensenbrenner, Dayton, OH, Scott (Ann) Sensenbrenner, Lawton, MI, Meg Sensenbrenner, Santa Barbara, CA, Jamie (Jenny) Sensenbrenner, Little Chute, Kevin (Crystal) Sensenbrenner, Dallas, TX, Carrie (Kurt) Schmitz, Albertville, MN, Jill (Jason) Jakubek, Menasha, Charlie Sensenbrenner, Stevens Point, Doug Sensenbrenner, Los Angeles, CA, Katrina and Kirsten Jensen, Appleton, step grandchildren, Jenny (Ann) Arndt, Appleton, Todd (Rachel) Arndt, McCall, ID and Jeff (Ann) Arndt, Waukesha and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mildred (Bill) Hengsteler, Appleton, sister-in-law, Alice (Gordon) Weber, Menasha and special friend, Lorraine Daniels.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at St. Joseph Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Fr. Larry Abler officiating. Full Military Honors will follow provided by the US Air Force and VFW Post #2778. Friends will be received directly at the church from 8:30 a.m. Wednesday until the funeral Mass. Interment will be in St. Margaret's Cemetery, Neenah. A memorial fund has been established.
Ray's family wants to acknowledge the wonderful, compassionate care given by Jacob, Tom, Beth, Elesha, Jenny, Dr. Jesse Johnston, and the entire ICU staff at Appleton Medical Center. Thank you!
Dad we will all miss you! You were the greatest Dad and Grandfather! You touched all of our lives in so many ways. We will remember you always and think of you every day.
