- Leona Mary Paltzer, age 95, died peacefully on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Brewster Village where she had made her home the past three years.
Leona was born on October 31, 1921 in Chilton, Wisconsin the daughter of the late Anton and Elizabeth (Braun) Sell. Following her education, Leona worked outside of the family home. She then was united in marriage to Jacob Henry Paltzer on August 25, 1948 in Chilton and their marriage was blessed with seven children. Leona was a loving and caring farm wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish of Appleton. Leona worked side by side with her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed gardening, her flower gardens, traveling, knitting and ceramics. She volunteered her time with the 4-H and after her retirement she also volunteered at The Salvation Army.
Leona is survived by her loving children, Jake (Joyce) Paltzer, Appleton; John (Brenda) Paltzer, Freedom; Barb (Harvey) Bloedow, Oshkosh; Joe (Kelly) Paltzer, Appleton; Jerry (Vicki) Paltzer, Fond du Lac; Deb (Clint) Werth, Fox Crossing; and Diane (Russ) Martindale, Hatley, WI; 12 grandchildren, Jake (Susan) Paltzer, Steve Paltzer, Heather (Ian) Beckman, Amy (Andrew) Pierce, Michelle (Paul) Ramus, Jeremy (Kelly) Paltzer, Heather (Eric) Hazen, Thomas Bloedow, Amanda (Steven) Haverty, Nicholas Bloedow, Joseph (Kristin) Paltzer, Jr., and Stephanie Paltzer. 11 great-grandchildren, a sister, Appie Eichmeier, Hilbert; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Sell, Chilton and Theo (Judd) Alexander, Exeter, N.H.; Leona was also preceded in death by her husband in 2006 one sister: Amelia (Elmer) Propson; six brothers: John, Al, Claude, Fritz, Joe (Esther) and Ervin (Rosemary) Sell and two sisters-in-law, Anne (Larry) Konz and Sr. Trinette Paltzer.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, 1810 N McDonald Street, Appleton, with the Rev. Gerald Falk officiating. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum, Appleton. Leona's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas More Catholic Parish.
Leona's family would like to extend a special thank you to Kathy Recker, her godchild and to the staff of Brewster Village, Affinity Hospice and Father Falk for all their care and compassion shown unto Leona and her family.
