- Clarence (Zip) DeShaney, Appleton, age 89, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by his loving family, following a short illness. He was born February 2, 1915 in Appleton, son of the late James and Rose (Goehler) DeShaney. He married Rita Wittmann February 20, 1939 in Appleton, sharing 56 years together before her death January 23, 1995. He was employed by Kimberly-Clark for many years and was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Robert (Shep) and Sheri DeShaney of Hilbert, Gerald and Pam DeShaney of Readfield, John and Mary DeShaney of Darboy; nine daughters and seven sons-in-law: Jeanne and Ken Levknecht of Kimberly, Mary and Robert Schrieber of St. Nazianz, Sharon and Tom Hopfensperger of Appleton, Pat and John Meixl of Kimberly, Judy Schoepel of Appleton, Wendy and Gary Lodholz of Darboy; Kim and Rick Surman of Darboy, Kerry and Bruce Goffard of Kimberly and Kathy DeShaney of Appleton; 37 grandchildren: Guy DeShaney; Ginger Weiderer, Tami Kuen, Candi Gregorski, Robin Deltour, Ron Levknecht, Joie Pirkey; Jackie Vigier, Ken Levknecht, Annie Levknecht, Tami Kiel, Tina Rutherford, Todd Schrieber, Tracy Schrieber, Dana Surprise, Stephanie Marks, Peter DeShaney, Toni Lohrenz, Tommy Hopfensperger, Steven Hopfensperger, Rick Meixl, Randy Meixl, Ron Schoepel, Becky Schoepel, Kellie Schoepel, Craig Schoepel, Mandy Waite, Kristy DeShaney, Erica Lodholz, Greg Lodholz, Stacy Surman, Jeff Surman, Jessica VanLannen, Nicole Goffard, Matthew Goffard, Cody and Abby DeShaney and their mother Sue Liberty-Bruehl, 51 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; three sisters-in-law: Margaret (Glenn) Taggart of Appleton, Mary Kroiss of Darboy, Joyce Wittmann of Darboy. Preceding Clarence in death were a son, Clarence, a granddaughter, Terry Schreiber, two brothers and sisters-in-law: Walter and Barb DeShaney and James and June DeShaney and a son-in-law: Ron Schoepel.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Thursday April 1, 2004 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church with the Rev. Harry Berryman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Wednesday March 31, 2004 from 4 PM to 8 PM and at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to express a special thank you to granddaughter Mandy Waite for the special love and care of grandpa and also to the Sub-acute Unit St. Elizabeth Hospital for their care of Clarence during his stay.
