- Staudenmaier, HildegardeHildegarde Staudenmaier, 102, died on Oct. 19, 2005. Born Sept. 25, 190 3, to Mike and Maggie (Lauters) Schmit in Fredonia, she lived her early li fe in Port Washington, graduated from The College of St. Teresa in Winon a, Minn., where she majored in mathematics and physics, and taught high sc hool math from 1924 to 1935. Hilde married Louis W. Staudenmaier on Sep t. 28, 1935. They lived in Marinette where Louis became president and chai rman of the board of the Stephenson National Bank, and Hilde raised four c hildren. Her many activities included the introduction of a hot lunch prog ram to Our Lady of Lourdes grade and high school. She ran the program f or 31 years believing that healthy meals are essential to a good educatio n. Louis died in 1980, and Hilde continued to nurture and challenge anyo ne who knew her. Their daughter, Mary, plays a leadership role at the ban k, in her parish and in the Marinette community. Hildegarde was a memb er of Holy Family Parish and resided for the last 18 months at Rennes Ea st Health Center where she received excellent care.Hildegarde is survived by two sons, Attorney L. William (Kathleen) Stauden maier, Wauwatosa, Wis.; and Jesuit priest, Fr. John Staudenmaier S.J., Det roit, Mich.; two daughters, Attorney Mary Staudenmaier, Marinette; and Mid ge (Dr. James) Breeden, Carson City, Nev.; a sister-in- law, Gerry Schmi t; eight grandchildren; and ten great- grandchildren.Friends may call at the Thielen Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 28, fr om 4 to 7 p.m., with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation at Our La dy of Lourdes Church on Taylor Street will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, f rom 10 to 11 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by h er son, Fr. John Staudenmaier, S.J. Burial will follow in Forest Home Ceme tery.In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hildegarde Staudenmaier M emorial Fund, M&M Area Community Foundation, St. Thomas Aquinas Academ y, or Jesuits at the University of Detroit Mercy.
