- Marie Jansen, 85, De Pere, passed away peacefully Jan. 17, 2009. Marie was born Jan. 26, 1923, to the late Bernard and Clara (Gevers) Kempen in De Pere. She attended Nicolet High School and graduated in 1940. She married Norbert Jansen on Feb. 8, 1947, at St. Boniface Church in De Pere, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1979.
Marie was a loving homemaker, raising her seven children. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and past president, a former member of Christian Mothers at St. Boniface. She very much enjoyed her time bowling, golfing, card playing, traveling and singing and yodeling with all of her family. She also loved to teach the family how to cook Booyah. Marie also enjoyed her time at their cottage on the bay.
She is survived by her seven children, Ronald, De Pere; Marilyn (Tom) Knuth, De Pere; David (Sue) Jansen, Hobart; Jeanne (John) Valentine, De Pere; Gary (Mary Ann) Jansen, De Pere; Jeffrey Jansen, Suamico; Carol (Fred) Mindermann, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her siblings, Rev. Gerald Kempen, O. Praem., Bernard Kempen, Jr., Bernice Gevaert, Roseanne (Dan) Polley.
Marie was preceded in death by her infant son, Peter; her loving husband; brothers, Marvin, Norman, Albert, Gilbert, Adrian and Raphael Kempen; and her sisters, Johanna Kempen and Elaine Deacon.
Friends may call at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with Ladies Auxiliary and Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Suburban and Lourdes Ave., De Pere, until time of service at 10:30 a.m. with Father Tim Shillcox, O.
